If you find yourself with chipped gel polish during quarantine, you are probably wondering how to remove gel nails at home. There are many different ways to go about removing your gel polish at home, but some are more complex than others.

The good news is there’s an easier way! All you need is a 100 percent pure acetone nail polish remover (BLUESKY’s remover is our fave!) and cotton balls. Here’s how to remove gel polish at home fast:

Steps To Remove Gel Polish at Home:

Sometimes getting your gel nails removed from a salon is not possible. The AAD proposes using acetone to remove gel polish at home. Here is how you do it:

  • Apply a slight amount of vaseline or petroleum jelly to your nails and surrounding skin. Vaseline will protect your skin and nails from the harsh effect of acetone.
  • Cut cotton strips or balls according to the measurements of your nail and dip them in acetone.
  • Put the wet cotton strips onto each of your gel nails and wrap them individually with plastic food wrap.
  • After a few minutes, discard the plastic food wrap. The gel nail polish would be removed entirely.
  • To remove any leftover gel polish, rinse your hands and nails in warm water.
  • Apply petroleum jelly or vaseline to your nails to moisten them.

The Bottom Line:

If you’re ready to remove your gel polish, and you don’t have time to swing by the nail salon, it’s easy to do at home. All you need is a 100 percent pure acetone nail polish remover and cotton balls. That’s it!
